# About refunds

You can issue full or partial refunds for your customers for any reason.

## What to expect

* Refunds use your active (payout) balance, so you will not be able to initiate a refund if your current balance cannot cover it.
* Refunds can only be sent to the customer's original payment method. To issue a refund to a different destination (such as another card or bank account), [create a payout](/integration-guide/payouts/create-a-payout) instead.
